Dresden, 3 July 2025 – Since May of this year, Senior Executive Chef Marcel Spahn has been bringing refined accents, precise craftsmanship and his personal signature to the culinary direction of Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden.
Responsible for all in-house restaurants, as well as the hotel’s events and catering operations, Marcel Spahn leads a team of 20 chefs and trainees in delivering a sophisticated gastronomic approach across the hotel. Guests can look forward to a completely new dining concept at the hotel’s restaurant ‘Das Palais’, where an elegant yet relaxed urban ambience sets the tone. The menu presents a curated collage of exquisite dishes from around the world, each offering a unique culinary impression. It features a balanced interplay of meat and vegetable dishes, allowing each ingredient to fully unfold without being overshadowed. Unfamiliar elements are introduced sparingly to evoke surprising depth and nuance.
‘Modern lightness plays a major role in my kitchen’, explains Marcel Spahn. ‘It is calm and restrained, yet impresses through genuine craftsmanship, something I believe deserves to take centre stage. I share this philosophy with my team because it is only through collaboration that we can create something truly special.’
Marcel Spahn began his culinary journey in 2008 at the Romantik Hotel & Restaurant Pattis. He went on to work in Koblenz and as Chef de Partie Gardemanager in Zurich before returning to his hometown of Dresden. In 2012, he took on the role of Chef de Partie Saucier at Schloss Hotel Pillnitz. From 2018 until his recent move to ‘Das Palais’, he led the culinary concept at VEN Restaurant at the INSIDE Hotel Dresden. Today, he is a respected figure in the regional culinary scene.
Marten Schwass, Managing Director of Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden, welcomes the latest addition to the team: ‘Our collaboration with Marcel Spahn once again reflects how deeply rooted our hotel is in the region. Mr. Spahn is a permanent fixture in Dresden’s culinary landscape. His ambition to consistently give his best and his tireless team spirit – qualities he honed as a former ice speed skater – will continue to elevate the gastronomic standards of the Taschenbergpalais.’
‘Das Palais’ is open daily and welcomes hotel guests and visitors. In addition to a seasonally changing menu, an exclusive signature menu is also served on the spacious outdoor terrace during the summer months – a culinary experience where expert craftsmanship and atmospheric charm blend harmoniously.
