Dresden, November 2025 – From 16 November 2025 to 03 January 2026, guests visiting the historic House Chapel of Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden will have the opportunity to discover comedian Otto Waalkes’ second talent. In addition to his celebrated gift for parody and performance, the creator of the iconic ‘Ottifanten’ (Otto’s Elephants) is also an accomplished draughtsman and painter. Waalkes studied Art Education at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg in the 1970s, where he honed the foundations of his artistic craft.

‘Otto’s signature is unmistakable’, says gallery owner Christoph Walentowski. ‘A unique blend of subtle humour and artistic originality. We are very much looking forward to bringing a touch of East Frisian flair to Saxony.’
The Dresden branch of the Walentowski Galleries, located on the ground floor of Hotel Taschenbergpalais, typically presents its exhibitions in its own gallery rooms. However, for this occasion, Saxony’s largest exhibition of Otto Waalkes’ work, featuring 150 pieces, will be showcased in a special setting: the hotel’s historic chapel. The distinctiveness of Waalkes’ paintings is reflected not least in his trademark motif, the beloved Ottifant, which playfully finds its way into many of his artworks, adding a touch of comic charm and whimsy.
