Although Singapore is one of the most densely populated regions in the world, it is also one of the cleanest and greenest cities. It offers its visitors and residents four nature reserves and more than 300 parks and gardens, which cover nearly 10% of the city.
One of the oldest parks is the Singapore Botanic Garden, which opened in 1859. It is home today to over 10,000 species of plants and is one of the premier orchid research and breeding centres in the world. Only a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, Fort Canning Park offers the perfect opportunity for a run in the morning or a picnic under the trees. Located in the park is also the first home of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore. One of the latest parks is the Gardens by the Bay, dominated by its supertree groves – 18 metal structures covered in plants and other vegetation, offering a scenic view over Marina Bay.
