Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer wine list earns three top-class awards

Hans-Martin Konrad, a passionate wine expert, has served as Head Sommelier at the gourmet restaurant Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer in the luxurious Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin for over eight years. This summer, he and his team are celebrating three major industry awards recognising the exceptional wine list he has curated for the iconic hotel at the Brandenburg Gate.

In addition to once again receiving the top rating of five red grapes from the renowned Gault&Millau – which signifies the ‘Grand Selection Award – Winelist’ in the ‘Best Grand Selection’ category – the hotel’s wine concept has also earned a place on the coveted list published by leading North American trade magazine ‘Wine Spectator’. Only four restaurants in Berlin and fourteen across Germany received a recommendation in the ‘Best of Award of Excellence 2025’ from Wine Spectator, and Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer is proudly among them with a two-glass rating. This distinction, the second-highest honour in the Wine Spectator awards, carries strong international credibility as it is based on approximately 450,000 independently verified tasting evaluations.

A new highlight this year is the successful inclusion of the Adlon wine selection, which now comprises around 1,500 wines, in the Star Wine List – an international network of sommeliers, gastronomy journalists and wine ambassadors founded in Sweden in 2017. This specialist portal is committed to identifying the world's best wine list recommendations across various categories, based on secret reviews by several wine connoisseurs. Hans-Martin Konrad's continuously expanded selection of high-quality wines was immediately awarded a Silver Star in the category for the best wines available by the glass – a distinction granted to only seven other restaurants in Germany.

‘With over sixty wines by the glass offered at Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer to finely round off each dish of our mostly six-course menus, Star Wine List has recognised our unique variety of exquisite wines available by the glass throughout Europe, which is a special honour for us,’ says the 45-year-old native of Bremen. ‘The immense selection of our top-class, open wine options allows us to harmonise the flavours of each dish and the different preferences of our guests with individually tailored quality wine to create a truly balanced taste experience.’

Both Jonas Zörner, the new head chef at the fine dining restaurant in the city’s most famous hotel on the (Parisian) square, and restaurant manager Oliver Kraft, recently named Host of the Year by the prestigious Feinschmecker magazine, are delighted with the triple award recognising the liquid gourmet treasures of their shared workplace. These accolades reflect the superb overall experience at Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, one of the best gourmet destinations in the city.
