Refreshing sorbets with the delicious taste of sun-ripened fruit, delicate milk ice cream with surprising flavor combinations, or one of Germany's largest milkshake selections topped with warm, soft Berlin pancakes with individually selectable fillings – these are the stars of the new gourmet hotspot opening on 23 August at Hotel Adlon Kempinski. In keeping with the quality-conscious hotel icon at the Brandenburg Gate, the nationally successful ice cream manufacturer Eis Engelchen was brought on board for this cool collaboration for the prominent gourmet paradise in the Adlon shopping arcade.
“We were keen to win Eis Engelchen for this fantastic partnership, as we are very familiar with the high-quality product range and constantly evolving flavor explosions of this long-standing supplier to our hotel,” says Karina Ansos, managing hotel director. “Those with a sweet tooth and a preference for Adlon patisserie can also look forward to a recipe composed by head pastry chef Steffen Holle, which will delight the palate with roasted pecans, Dulcey toffee salted caramel, and brownie pieces as Adlon praline ice cream.”
For the team at the Berlin-based ice cream manufacturer, which has been growing steadily since 2011, led by managing director and trained ice cream maker Sarah Wand, the collaboration is also a sweet dream come true: “We are very much looking forward to this new chapter in our success story with the famous Hotel Adlon Kempinski, which began in 2012. The hotel's commitment to quality is reflected in our exclusively natural ingredients, among other things,” reveals the passionate ice cream specialist. “In summer, our offering focuses on ice cream, while in the cooler months, a smaller selection of ice cream is complemented by Kaiserschmarrn with homemade fruit compotes. A special highlight will be our warm, soft Berlin pancakes, available all year round, which can be filled and topped in a variety of ways on request.”
For the pankake fillings, guests can choose from nine different fruity, chocolatey, creamy, or crunchy flavor components and around 24 ice cream flavors. Furthermore 25 other popular brand-name sweets are available as sprinkles or freshly melted toppings to crown each individually designed pancake. Here, too, the collaboration with the legendary hotel has resulted in an Adlon variation in the form of a pancake decorated with shiny, wafer-thin edible gold leaf, served with an ice-cold piccolo bottle of champagne.
The ice cream range also leaves nothing to be desired. Eis Engelchen has put together a selection of its most popular ice cream flavors to melt away, including many ice cream classics as well as the currently trendy frozen treat “Omas Teigschüssel” (Grandma's mixing bowl) with juicy pieces of batter, marzipan ice cream with poppy seeds and real marzipan pieces, and gorgonzola ice cream with caramelized walnuts and figs. The scoops are served in large homemade waffle cones or in cups, often with cream and refined sauces. Soft ice cream lovers will also get their money's worth – melt-in-the-mouth ice cream enjoyment is guaranteed in the two favourite flavours, vanilla and chocolate.
The lovingly decorated new home of up to 24 irresistible, traditionally handcrafted, seasonally changing ice cream creations from a total range of 62 ice cream flavours is open daily from 11:00 to 20:00. A visit there can be combined with the neighbouring Adlon To Go coffee shop, which harmoniously complements the ice cream experience with its sophisticated coffee and tea specialties - currently featuring matcha varieties.
