Hunan Provincial Museum was founded in the early 1950s and is located in the Changsha Kaifu District, adjacent to the martyr and the scenic park that covers an area of 51,000 sq m (548,959 sq ft) with 29,000 sq m (312,153.4 sq ft) of public floor area.

The museum holds collections of many cultural relics, including the most characteristic of the Mawangdui artifacts, bronzes of the Shang and Zhou Chu cultural relics, ancient ceramics, calligraphy and paintings and modern-day treasures. It is one of the largest comprehensive art history museums in Hunan Province. It is also an outstanding patriotism and education demonstration base and one of Hunan’s Provincial 4A- level tourist attractions.
