Dream & Fantasy. Contemporary Art Collection at Kempinski Gallery

Dream & Fantasy. Contemporary Art Collection at Kempinski Gallery

For the visual arts, often considered representative of reality, inner vision has always had special significance. Kempinski Gallery is proud to host "Dream & Fantasy" selection form KOGART - Kovács Gábor Art Collection - until 31 May, 2014.

Since the second half of the 20th century, when Western culture started to move into a clearly visual age, science has had an increased interest in what we see and how we see it, and what artists see and make visible. The so-called inner picture, a subjective, individual world that may seem familiar to all, but is not a straightforward representation of reality, has been an abiding concern of contemporary art.

This selection from the Gábor Kovács Art Collection presents works of art that explore the notions of tale, dream, vision, imagination and remembering, giving a taste of the formal and conceptual diversity of contemporary art.

Some of the works are explicitly related to the frequently interlacing experiences of dreaming and remembering (Vladimir Szabó: Among Memories, and Árpád Daradics’s prints), while others can be considered artistic expressions of inner visions that derive from self-examination (Zsuzsa Moizer’s portraits). Rita Koralevics’s vision-like copperplates invite the viewer into the chilling milieu of deserted streets at night. Tamás Kovács’s series of copperplates, Western Journey, or, the Story of the Monkey King takes a new look at the old Chinese tale, while Oszkár Papp’s pictures, which employ a special technique, offer a view into the surrealistic and abstract world of dreams.

Exhibiting artists:
Bodor Lilla, Daradics Árpád, Harl Csaba, Kesselyák Rita, Kiss Endre, Kocsis Imre, Kovács Tamás, Mayer Hella, Mersits Piroska, Moizer Zsuzsa, Papp Oszkár, Regős István, Szabó Vladimir, Wächter Dénes
