Kempinski Seychelles Celebrates EarthCheck Benchmark Achievement
Baie Lazare, Seychelles, September 2017 – Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare continues to reach important milestones in its journey towards improved sustainable business practices. Last week the luxury hotel achieved Bronze Benchmark status through EarthCheck, the world’s leading environmental management and professional services group for the travel and tourism industry.
The hotel commemorated this auspicious achievement by planting an indigenous tree near the hotel’s main entrance.
“This gesture is a reflection of our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our unique environment,” said the general manager, Masami Egami. “We are incredibly proud of Seychelles’ extraordinary natural beauty and unique heritage and believe we have an obligation to safeguard it for future generations. Our entire team has worked really hard to develop innovative operational practices that positively and responsibly manage our environmental and social impact.”
The hotel performed especially well in it’s first-ever EarthCheck assessment, particularly in independent evaluations of the hotel’s greenhouse gas emissions and total energy and water consumption. Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck, said that Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare has taken a significant leadership position in sustainability.
Mr. Moore said, “I would like to congratulate the whole team on their achievement. Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare is a valued member of a global group of industry innovators who dare to make a difference.”
As a global company, which currently operates in more than 30 countries, Kempinski strongly believes it has a responsibility to integrate hotel operations into the life of the local communities in which it operates.
