Per tradition, Bansko hosted the annual competition for mountain running and biking, the Pirin Run, on Sunday, 22 June. The competition was organised by the Municipality of Bansko, the Marathon Association and 5kmRun.bg, and featured professionals and amateurs aged between 15 – 75 years. Sponsors of the event were Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko, ski.bg, Solomon and Sport box chain of sport shops
Following a pre-competition briefing held in one of the meeting rooms of Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko the day before, the event programme began with the registration of the participants. 77 racers took part in the race on Sunday, which officially started at 10am in front of the hotel.
52 contestants ran the distance of 13 km to reach the finishing point at Vihren Peak, while 17 cyclists rode 27 km to finish in front of Vihren Hut at 1,950 m above sea level. Afterwards, the racers came back for the award ceremony with transport organised by the hotel.
The ceremony took place in the afternoon at a purpose-built event stage, located right next to Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko’s Lobby Bar terrace. General Manager Athanassios Manos personally rewarded the winners with hotel weekend vouchers and wished them success in their future sporting endeavors.
Shaban Mustafa won the prize for the men’s running race and Maria Nikolova was the winner among the women. The bicycle race’s finalist is Michail Kletcherov.
