When it comes to the festive season, Vilnius goes all out as of the very first days of December. Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square kicked off the 2014 festive season with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony for hotel guests and the local community on December 3. Two choirs performed Christmas carols while guests enjoyed Gluehwein, hot chocolate and Christmas cookies. Special guests, children and mothers from the Caritas Mother and Childcare Home, were invited as well to the hotel for this celebration.
The opening ceremony started off the festive season presenting a myriad of options to enjoy the upcoming holidays. Vilnius Old Town guests are welcome to indulge in our cosy Afternoon Tea ritual in the luxurious Kempinski Lobby Lounge with its decorated Christmas tree and true festive atmosphere. This year, our Executive Chef Javier Lopez created a luxurious six-course Christmas dinner and numerous holiday favourites for guests to enjoy. Many staff Christmas parties will be held here for everyone to enjoy the festive splendour.
The year of 2015 will be greeted with an exclusive New Year's Eve party. For this celebration, the guests will go back to the times of Mr James Bond. The New Year’s Eve 2015 celebration will spread across the luxurious Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square Lobby Lounge, Le Salon Bar and Restaurant Telegrafas. Guests will be entertained by a live band performance, dancing, casino and DJ tunes while enjoying mouth-watering delicacies at the New Year’s Eve buffet with a great variety of culinary highlights and bespoke drinks.
While in Vilnius during the festive season guests should not miss the countless festive activities taking place. Just outside the windows of Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square, the festive lighting of the Christmas tree in Cathedral Square will take place on November 29 at 7:30pm. The traditional International Christmas Charity Fair will take place at the Town Hall which will sell special Christmas decorations, variety of sweets and cakes, everything from warm woollen socks to truly festive delicacies. Vilnius Old Town Christmas Market opens for the festive crowd on December 1 at the Town Hall Square. It was listed among the best Christmas markets in Europe by the British daily “Telegraph”?
All of the festive activities are just a stone’s throw away from Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square, and many take place at the hotel. Guests will be treated to a cosy Christmas fairytale at the Bernarinai Garden, which will be transformed into a cosy oasis with a variety of cafes, fountains and modern light projects. A Christmas train will ride across the narrow streets of Vilnius Old Town and the Vilnius Television Tower will be transformed into a 168-m-(550 ft)-high Christmas tree with gazillion light bulbs. On December 25-31 our guests will enjoy the colourful 3D fairytale on the facade of the Vilnius Cathedral and an exclusive 3D travel story about Lithuanian money due to the changing local currency Litas to Euro will be shown on Didzioji Street. Finally, on the New Year’s Eve, December 31, Vilnius will flourish with fountains of fireworks, Cathedral Square will become a countdown site, known as the Euro countdown, for the last minutes of the passing year of 2014.
