Known as the mother temple of Bali, Besakih is regarded as the most sacred temple on the whole island. The large compound encompasses 23 individual temples, and is loved for its dramatic scenery on the southern slopes of Mount Agung. As the most important temple, Besakih Temple regularly holds religious ceremonies which gather people from all around the island.
The complex itself conveys the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, a fundamental Balinese belief of harmony between man and God, humans and the environment. The structural composition of Besakih features long flights of stairs, designed to lead an individual closer to Mount Agung, which is considered sacred. The main temple of this complex is Pura Penataran Agung, where rituals are focused on.
Besakih Temple is a two-hour drive from the hotel. For a visit, please contact our team, who will arrange your transport.
