Bangkok, 16 May 2024 - Sindhorn Kempinski Bangkok celebrates the latest indulgence – the New Verdant Afternoon Tea. The delectable collection of sweet and savoury treats takes inspiration from the verdant greenery that envelops the award-winning hotel lobby. As part of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, the delicious treats will be served in eco-friendly containers made from husk bio-composite material and coconut fibre.
The tea set, created by Executive Pastry Chef Paul Kelly, includes elegant treats, such as Salmon with Pickled Onion, Crab Salad Waffle, Coronation Chicken Tartlets, Foie Gras Parfait, and Smoked Duck Breast with Brioche. To satisfy the sweet tooth, there is white chocolate Tacos, Bounty Bar, Mango Cheesecake Roll, and Opera cake.
Chef Kelly, who has years of experience leading kitchens in various countries, initiated the concept of sustainability and the environment for the previous afternoon tea offerings, which have proved to be a big hit with guests. The Verdant Afternoon tea is served in containers hanging from a miniature Salapee tree surrounded by a mist from dry ice. The particular tree was chosen for its strength and organic, graceful shape. It is also considered auspicious with the belief that it brings longevity and luck.
The containers are created using husk bio-composite material and coconut fibre, both sustainable materials. The husk is derived from rice, a staple in most Asian diets, and millions of tons of rice husk waste is created each year from its milling process. Unfortunately, that leads to rural farms burning the husks, releasing polluting greenhouse gases and high levels of dust particulate into the atmosphere. By using these containers, Sindhorn Kempinski Bangkok aims to make an impact and lead the way towards a more sustainable future.
Guests can enjoy the New Verdant Afternoon Tea experience at the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok Lobby from 13.00 to 17.00 daily. It is priced at THB 2,300++ per a set for two persons.
To support and engage with the local community, THB 100 from every afternoon tea set sold on Wednesdays goes to the Autistic Thai Foundation and Foundation for the Blind as part of The Melody of Giving Back programme. The hotel has implemented this project to lend a helping hand to disabled musicians.
