Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok Launches the New ‘Summer Water Lilies’ Afternoon Tea to Celebrate History, Art and Flavours

Bangkok, 13 May 2024 — This summer, Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok and 1897 Lounge invite you to experience the elegance of a royal garden with their new ‘Summer Water Lilies’ afternoon tea. Conceptualised by the hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef Franck Istel and renowned decorative and furniture design artist Jiraparnn Tokeeree, this exquisite offering is available from today until 31 July 2024 and is priced at THB 2,390++ for two persons.

The new concept celebrates the timeless afternoon tradition, harmonising history, art and flavours into an appealing tower of light snacks. Chef Franck Istel brings his vision of a royal summer garden from the 19th century to life through a combination of French pastry recipes with touches of tropical Thai flavours. Appreciate our new teatime stand as it features summer lotus leaves, inspired by the charming history of Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, once part of the royal mansion’s lotus pond.

Amidst Thailand’s most celebrated season, Chef Franck and Jiraparnn bring their culinary concept to life. Each creation is designed to captivate guests, appealing not only to the eyes, but also to the ears with unique storytelling. The experience starts with a warm greeting from our staff, accompanied by delighted smiles, as they offer guests a moment to peruse the world-renowned Ronnefeldt® tea selection, with two choices available. Served with elegance, our teatime presentation features a design inspired by summer lotus leaves. The first course offers a selection of savouries, including Blue Swimmer Crab Cajun Remoulade with Avocadoa and Mango Cream, Salmon Mousse and Red Caviar with Dill and Lemon, Tomato Burrata Canelé with Thai Basil Pesto on Shortbread, and Smoked Duck Breast Tartlet with Apple Ginger Jelly. Each bite showcases the richness of Thailand’s tropical resources.

Followed by the second course, served on a unique summer-lotus-inspired assortment, our scone course comes in two flavours: vanilla and currant. Perfect for two guests to enjoy, they are served with raspberry jam, Devonshire-style clotted cream and lemon curd.

The final course offers a sweet plate of five pairs of French-style desserts, showcasing the perfection of art and flavour. Taste the royals’ favourite style of pastries, crafted with the finest use of Thailand’s famous fruits, including Inspiration Passion Fruit Choux, Almond Pineapple in Dulcey Cup, Pistachio Strawberry Entremets, and Thai Coconut Milk Chocolate Layer Cake.

The new Summer Water Lilies afternoon tea is accompanied by enchanting live harp music from Tong-Juan Wang. She has crafted a summer-dedicated playlist for guests to enhance this afternoon tradition from Tuesday to Sunday.

To conclude this royal-like experience, guests are treated to a scoop of refreshing sorbet. Choose from lemon, raspberry or mango to ensure your afternoon is thoroughly enjoyable.

Hailing from Khon Kaen, Jiraparnn Tokeeree, affectionately known as Khun Banana, is a Thai artist specialising in contemporary interior and furniture design. Khun Banana is no stranger to Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok. She has been part of the successful team that has displayed several art pieces in the hotel’s palatial lobby since its opening, marking the first Kempinski property in Thailand.

The Summer Water Lilies afternoon tea is served daily from today until 31 July 2024, between 13:00 to 17:00 at 1897 Lounge on the ground floor of Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok. The experience is priced at THB 2,390++ per set and includes a choice of Ronnefeldt® tea or divine coffee for two persons.
