What is Cairo's Climate like?

Cairo's desert climate consists of hot days and cold nights. The Spring Season (March to May) has pleasant warm days with an average temperature of 23°C. The months June to August are hot with temperatures exceeding 35°C. During Autumn (September to November) the temperature will cool down to an average of 25°C, whilst the months December to February are cooler and may require the use of a light jacket, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 22°C.

What is the local currency of Cairo?

The local currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP/ LE). Cash is often the best method of payment, especially when shopping in souks (markets) or using taxis. Credit and debit cards are also widely used as a method of payment.

What languages are spoken in Cairo?

Arabic is the official language in Cairo, but English is widely spoken and understood.

What etiquette should I be aware of in Cairo?

When visiting Cairo, certain etiquette should be followed. A modest dress code is highly recommended, especially in busy areas and public places. Swimwear is acceptable only at the beach or around swimming pools.

What is Cairo’s cuisine like?

Egyptian cuisine has been influenced throughout history, especially by its neighbours from the Middle East. Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Ottomans first influenced the Egyptian cuisine thousands of years ago and the cuisines still share similarities, such as rice-stuffed vegetables, vine leaves, shawarma, kebab and baklava. However, Egyptian cuisine maintains its uniqueness. After thousands of years, rice and bread (“Aish” –- also the word for “life”) remain staple food, Molokhiyya and Ful Mudammas, the national dishes, are nearly as popular as they were long ago.

Egypt Standard Time is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2).

Which airports serve Cairo?

Cairo International Airport (CAI) is the main air transport hub for Egypt’s capital city and is located about 25 km away from Kempinski Nile Hotel.

The airport is well served by the national carrier EgyptAir and its Star Alliance partners, as well as Sky Team, One World and Gulf carriers.

How do I get around Cairo?

Public transport is available within the city, including a metro, buses and taxis. Even though Cairo’s metro is ranked as one of the busiest in the world, you can save a lot of time compared to driving on the crowded streets. Taxis can be hailed from the street and are common enough to be used by any traveller. If you prefer not to hail one from the street, both Uber and Middle East-based Careem operate taxi services in Cairo.

Visa for Egypt

Visitors to Egypt must obtain a visa from one of the Egyptian diplomatic missions if they do not come from a visa-exempt country or a country that is eligible for a visa on arrival.

Entry visas for Egypt can be purchased for USD 25 at the visa office or bank counters located in the arrivals hall of the airport.

Visitors must hold passports that are valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Egypt.
