“Pedrín” Art Gallery at Kempinski Hotel Bahía

Pieces by Malaga artist Pedro Rodriguez, which have even appeared in the American movie Night at the Museum 2, are part of the exhibition space in the hotel entrance, featuring the main protagonist, “Olly” the bull.

January 2015 – The collectors, art lovers and clients of the hotel can now enjoy the artwork of local artist Pedro Rodríguez from Málaga displayed in Kempinski Hotel Bahía, the result of a strong relationship between the hotel Andalusian art.

This relationship started in 2010 with an exhibition and sale of small sculptures by Pedro in the display cabinets and in the boutique of the hotel. From then on, it has only strengthened.

Art plays an important role at Kempinski Hotel Bahía and Pedro’s art gallery is his own space where he displays gorgeous pieces that express the true emotions of Andalucía, such as bulls, horses and other sculptures made of marble, wood, bronze and clay. He is a true master of his art.

His emblem – Orgulloso – has now become the Kempinski Bull and stands tall and proud in the hotel lobby as the new mascot of the hotel and watches over the lobby and the entrance. The staff affectionately calls it “Olly”. The sculpture is made of polyurea, measures 190 x 170 cm (74.8 x 66.9 in) and weighs some 80 kg (176.4 lbs).

Bulls have always been very present in Pedro Rodriguez’s life. He became famous when his bull sculptures appeared in the American movie Night at the Museum 2.

Pedro Rodríguez:
Born in Malaga in 1958, Pedro Rodríguez is a great Mediterranean artist that expresses his zest for life and an exaltation and exuberance for nature. Although he studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Málaga and attended modelling classes at the Universidad Popular de Coín, he also considers himself an autodidact. He has participated in art experiments with other artists, such as exhibiting and creating, performance art and contemporary plastic manifestations. The subjects he chooses to represent remind us of his origins: bulls, horses, mermaids, etc. In his statues, Pedro captures the veneration and totemic value of these animals and raises them to the status of symbols. Like any art manifestation that reaches this degree of creation, he generalises through allegoric volume concepts and values that are universally understood this way.
