Monda is a traditional white village surrounded by olive trees and nestled in the mountains behind Marbella. Kempinski Hotel Bahía has a very special connection to one particular producer of olive oil from this area, the Mudéjar mill, from whom we have purchased the olive oil that you will see in our restaurants.
This very special olive oil, which is still to this day described as the ‘Gold of the Romans’, is made from the very rare Acebuchina olives, which can be traced back to Roman times where they were prized for the quality of their oil, taste and properties. Today the Acebucha trees are very rare and can only be found in certain locations, as they are considered a wild form of tree as opposed to cultivated Olive trees. There is growing interest in Acebucha olive oil, but it is not an easy tree to grow from seed, hence its rarity.
As part of bringing quality local produce to the tables of our restaurants for our guests, we enjoy making sure that we choose the finest products available whilst working with our local community. Visitors are very welcome to the Mudéjar Mill, visit our concierge to learn more and arrange a visit, to this delightful village and the Mudéjar Mill where you will be warmly greeted.
