Fuzhou, 18 December 2024 – The elegant jasmine flower took root in Fuzhou when it was introduced to China during the Xihan Dynasty, making the history of its cultivation in Fuzhou nearly as long as that of the 2,000-year-old ancient city itself. In modern times, Fuzhou's Three Lanes and Seven Alleys have been home to many talented individuals, including officials and scholars such as national hero Lin Zexu, Yan Fu, known as ‘the first person to open his eyes to the world’, and Lin Juemin, author of the world-famous ‘Letter to My Wife’.
To introduce more tourists to the anecdotes of historical figures from the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys and showcase Fuzhou’s unique charm, Zhongrui Theatre, located in Anmin Alley, has recently launched the immersive production ‘The Most Beautiful Jasmine Flower’. This performance unveils history from a fashionable and witty perspective, maintaining depth and gravity while transporting the audience through space and time to enter the world of the legendary Lin Huiyin in search of the ‘fragrance of jasmine’.
The production invites audiences to savour the unchanging ethics and patriotic spirit of Fuzhou’s literati amidst the city’s century-long changes, witness the contemporary generation's commitment to preserving history and culture and experience the deep friendship between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait as one family, all while recreating the splendour of Banyan City.
As a prestigious tourist attraction in Fuzhou, Three Lanes and Seven Alleys is a must-see destination for countless visitors. Besides Nanhou Street, where people can try various local snacks, they can also visit the former residences of famous individuals in the lanes. Kempinski Hotel Fuzhou has drawn inspiration for its logo from this historic site’s saddle walls and pagodas.
To strengthen its connection with Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, the hotel has introduced a ‘Culture Exploration’ room package for travellers. From 21 December 2024 onwards, guests staying in a Deluxe Room will receive two complimentary tickets to the attraction and a buffet breakfast for two. Conveniently located near Fuzhou Metro Line 4’s Zhuyu Station, the hotel provides easy access to Three Lanes and Seven Alleys in just four stops.
