Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Welcomes New General Manager

Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Welcomes New General Manager

Jakarta, 10 February 2015—Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta is proud to announce that it has appointed a new general manager. The industry veteran Alex Pichel brings 26 years of hospitality experience to the historical hotel.

Mr Pichel actually started work in the industry as a humble bellboy for Bristol Hotel Kempinski Berlin in 1988 in Germany. His passion for the profession then saw him leave his native country to work overseas, starting in reservations at the Hyatt Carlton Tower in London in 1993.

Mr Pichel’s career then took him even further overseas, to South America where he worked at the Hyatt Regency Villa Hermosa in Mexico, then to the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires. He then went back to Europe, to the Hyatt Regency Paris, before he returned to the Hyatt Carlton Tower in 1995 where he held several management positions.

Mr Pichel’s first senior management position was at the Hyatt Regency Mainz, where he was appointed as director of rooms in 2003, and then promoted to deputy general manager in 2004. His first general manager position was at the Hyatt Regency Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan when he was only 34 years old.

Prior to his move to Jakarta, Mr Pichel worked as managing director for various Rosewood hotels in the Middle East. His new position at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta is his first appointment in Asia and, in fact, his first time visiting the region. It is a position that this adventurous and youthful general manager, who counts skydiving and ice-diving among his hobbies, sees as an exciting challenge.

“I feel blessed to have been offered this position at the most iconic hotel in one of the most vibrant and forward-looking cities in Asia,” said Mr Pichel. “Jakarta is bursting with energy and passion and is always on the move, but it has a real heart and soul that reflects its fascinating history.

“And, of course, part of that history is Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, the country’s first five-star hotel. Yet this luxury property, which only recently re-opened the Kempi Deli and Sweet Boutique by Kempinski, has its eyes firmly set on the future. I am happy to become part of this exciting and evolving story.”
