The closure will help us to revive and rejuvenate for the upcoming season 2018. The reopening will be full of fresh motivation, new ideas and special offers, which will continue to inspire and excite our valued guests. Reservations, Sales & Marketing and Groups & Events are remaining open to drive the sales for the upcoming season.
2017 at a glance
It is impossible to list all the positive changes and all the exceptional events, meetings, activities, presentations and exhibitions that took place in 2017. Looking back, the year will be fondly remembered as a good and successful year full of positive reviews and awards. Most importantly, it will be remembered as the year in which the employees gave their all to create an outstanding luxury service for the guests.
The Kempinski hotel chain, the oldest luxury hotel chain in Europe, celebrated its 120th Anniversary that year. As a celebration, we rewarded our guests with special treats and offers throughout the year. Further, our loyalty programme was redesigned, relaunched and renamed KEMPINSKI DISCOVERY, providing additional extra benefits for our loyal members.
Numerous spectacular events were hosted, among which were several car events, car tours, culinary happenings and a record number of romantic weddings. At the beginning of April, the hotel dressed itself in colours of advertising and marketing, while hosting the 26th SOF – Slovenian marketing festival; the start of the old-timers rally Dolomites Classic happened at the Palace hotel; the hotel participated in the car tours from Gran Tourismo and Streetgasm; the exquisite annual Kempinski BMW Golf tournament again surpassed all expectations; charity event Der Deutsche ball coloured the exceptional Crystal Hall; Maestro Daniele Dondè presented his art in the Ladies salon throughout the month of July; warm summer evenings hosted local culinary delights in the park of the hotel during the Istrian Flavours evenings; the chefs from the JRE – Jeunes Restaurateurs Slovenia – crafted an unforgettable culinary evening in the Crystal Hall; the hotel hosted the final event of the Lufthansa City Centre – LCC Travel agency’s visit to Slovenia; the Easter and Christmas market again brought local Istrian crafts and specialities to the park of the hotel; and the Sparkling wine festival hosted a champagne provider, Taittinger Champagne house, for the first time.
Throughout summer, Kempinski Palace Portorož hosted a now already traditional series of culinary events called Guest Chef Events, where guest chefs visited the Restaurant Sophia and prepared their culinary delights for the guests. That year all guest chefs were proud owners of a Michelin star level! First came a two-star Michelin recipient, Italian chef Emanuele Scarello (Ristorante Agli Amici 1887); second came another Italian, Chef Raffaele Ros (Ristorante San Martino) with one Michelin star. The season continued with an Austrian chef, awarded with two Michelin stars, Andreas Senn (SENNS Restaurant), and the season ended with another Austrian, Chef Andreas Kaiblinger (Restaurant Esszimmer), with one Michelin star. The Guest Chef events will continue in 2018, with again spectacular chefs arriving at Restaurant Sophia!
The success of the hotel cannot be pinned down to only one specific area of business; it is a conglomerate of many variables and a representation of coherent work among employees. It gives the hotel recognition that the hard and quality work from the past is paying off, and it serves as the basis for the professional and hard work in the future.
As the hotel is taking its well-deserved break, Reservations, Sales and Marketing, and Groups & Events are remaining open to assist guests with future reservations and to provide all the assistance they might need.
