Guest Chef Events 2017
Portorož, Slovenia – October 2017 – The Guest Chef events at Restaurant Sophia have now already become a tradition. The concept of the events is that each evening, a Chef takes over the kitchen of the gourmet restaurant and prepares a unique five-course menu.
In the previous three years, the events have already hosted the crème de la crème Chefs from the Slovenia area. The big names that have already stood behind the stove of the Restaurant Sophia are Ana Roš (Hiša Franko), Janez Bratovž (JB), Tomaž Kavčič (Zemono), Jure Tomič (Restaurant Debeluh), David Vračko (Restaurant Mak), Vesna and Gašper Čarman (Danilo), and Andrej Kuhar (Vila Herberstein), to only name a few. However, the season 2017 has gone even further in its culinary diversity and Excellency and has climbed up the ladder to the level of Michelin-star Chefs; all Chefs in 2017 have been recipients of the prestigious Michelin Star award.
The season started on 30 May 2017 with the master of details and refined tastes, Italian two-Michelin-stars recipient Emanuele Scarello. The love of the sea and seafood comes from the restaurant Agli Amici 1887, which is celebrating its 130-year anniversary this year. The charismatic and friendly Chef delighted everyone with the menu.
The second maestro also came from Italy: from the restaurant San Martino, in the vicinity of Venice, came Chef Raffaele Ros on 20 June 2017 with one Michelin star. He brought with him his wife, Michela, a sommelier, who assists him to make the perfect harmony of tastes through excellent wine pairings. Again, a sold-out event; again, a remarkable menu; and again, a unique experience.
On the wings of the victory of the Slovenian basketball team came, on 17 September 2017, a grandmaster from Austria, Chef Andreas Senn from SENNS restaurant, with two Michelin stars. Known for his desire for constant innovation and a combination of prestige and mundane cuisine, Andreas prepared a menu full of flavours, which left everybody speechless. Austrian specialities, such as the Austrian Ox à la Stroganoff, filled the menu, and for the grand finale, the Chef prepared an edible boardgame Ludo with chocolate dice and figures.
The last, but definitely not least, guest chef of the series was another Austrian, Chef Andreas Kaiblinger from restaurant Esszimmer. The experienced Austrian strives towards culinary perfection and likes to add modern influence and taste to the traditional dishes. Smoked Halibut with caramelised tuna was only one of the specialities that were presented by the exceptional chef.
Timelessly elegant gourmet Restaurant Sophia has therefore hosted another successful series of the Guest Chef events. Each unique and spectacular on its own, all have pampered the guests, and took the restaurant on a remarkable culinary journey. Rich menus were accompanied by spectacular local wine pairings, chosen by the house sommelier Bojan Poljšak.
We are kindly inviting you to visit us next year, when the Guest Chef Events will continue!
