Kempinski Career Day 2014 – An exclusive opportunity for newcomers and professionals to join the luxury hotel industry for a career at home or abroad.

The aim: an international career in the luxury hotel industry. The first step: The Kempinski Career Day 2014 at Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich on March 1, 2014. The event is an exciting opportunity not only for newcomers and students, but also for experienced professionals looking for their next challenge in luxury hospitality or simply seeking a career change. During the event, attendees will have the chance to talk one-on-one with more than 70 hotel General Managers, members of the management board and over 20 senior executives. In the afternoon, panel discussions will offer valuable advice and insights into career development in the luxury hospitality industry. Applications for the Kempinski Career Day 2014 can be submitted online at Attendance is limited to 1000 candidates on a first come first serve basis.

“We are continuously looking for new talent for our hotels world-wide,” says Vice President Talent Development Michel Gehrig, who is responsible for recruitment and professional development. “Candidates have a good chance of receiving an on-the-spot job offer, as our hotel group is pursuing further expansion. This also means that the prospects for a successful international career are excellent.” In his opinion, success is mostly attributed to attitude: employees must be enthusiastic, passionate about the luxury hospitality and service industry, flexible and mobile and have a very good command of the English language. Kempinski currently has a number of positions to fill, from basic apprenticeship or management trainees to middle and upper management positions in a wide range of departments and locations.

“The concept of our Career Days has definitely proven to be successful for us and for the applicants who have the opportunity to speak to the decision makers in person with a realistic chance of a job offer right then and there,” says Reto Wittwer, President and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, who is thrilled by the repeated success of Kempinski’s Career Day which has been expanded to the Middle East and China regions as well. “Last year alone we conducted 1,166 interviews and made 436 job offers,” adds Michel Gehrig. Many success stories have been written during the last three Kempinski Career Days: a junior Banqueting and Private Aviation Catering agent was recently appointed Food & Beverage Manager at Kempinski Hotel River Park Bratislava; a graduating apprentice joined Kempinski’s corporate office in Geneva as a Finance Trainee; and a Director of Food & Beverage was promoted to Executive Assistant Manager at Kempinski Grand Hotel Gelendzhik.

To further develop and promote exceptionally ambitious and talented employees, Kempinski has implemented its very own rapid succession programme. Candidates who are invited to this programme go through a fast-track training tailored to their background and experience. This training lasts a minimum of six months in at least two locations, and includes a cross-training at Kempinski’s corporate office. The aim of this rapid succession programme is to ensure a sustainable succession plan up until 2020, so that all current “second-in-command” vacancies at the hotels are filled with managers who have the potential to become General Managers. “We want to develop talent from within the company,” explains Michel Gehrig. “That is what Kempinski stands for. And there are a lot of attractive career opportunities for those who wish to grow with Kempinski over the next years.”

To enhance communication and efficiency during Career Day, Kempinski introduced a custom-designed event guide app for applicants and a second app for General Managers to conduct the interviews. The event guide app enables candidates to access up-to-the-minute event information, allowing them to get the most out of the day and offering them the opportunity to interact live during the event or through social media. The second app allows General Managers and corporate experts to quickly access a candidate’s job background and preferences, allowing them to interview candidates on behalf of another hotel, as well as provide immediate feedback after the interview. As this app is designed to interface with event data, Kempinski’s Talent Development team is able to consolidate results rapidly and ultimately ensure that individual candidates receive feedback more rapidly.
