Kempinski Career Day 2013: On-the-spot job offers and the prospect of fast-track promotions await participants

Getting to know new cultures, working in international teams and taking responsibility early on - this is how many high-flying hotel careers have begun at Kempinski. For those with the right attitude and a dream, these paths are still open. And to them, registering for the upcoming Kempinski Career Day in Munich is a must.
On March 2, 2013 at Kempinski Hotel Airport in Munich, all of Kempinski’s management board members, hotel General Managers and corporate experts will be conducting interviews with interested applicants. The event is aimed at talents who have gathered some professional experience and who want to make their next move on the career ladder. But even for those who are simply looking for a new challenge, students or young professionals and newcomers to the hospitality world are welcome to attend. A good first impression could immediately mean a new job. Registration for the Kempinski Career Day 2013 is now open on www.kempinski-jobs.com.
Due to Kempinski’s planned international expansion, the luxury hotel group is expected to need at least 12,000 new employees worldwide in the next three years, including 1,000 managers and 35 General Managers. There are currently 700 jobs available globally: 300 in Europe (more than half of them in Germany), 100 in the Middle East and Africa and 300 in China. The positions range from entry-level jobs, such as apprenticeships or management traineeships to middle and senior management positions in various fields. The positions on offer also include Event Managers, Directors of Sales & Marketing, Spa & Wellness Managers, Housekeeping Supervisors, butlers and many more; so there are many different opportunities to enter the Kempinski job market or climb the career ladder. In Food & Beverage alone, there are more than 200 job vacancies, 90 of which are in middle and senior management.
“The Career Day has clearly proven successful for us as the company and for the participant, who really get a wide range of opportunities and have the chance to talk directly to managers,” says Reto Wittwer, President and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, who is looking forward to the Kempinski Career Day. Wittwer is the driving force behind making talent development a matter of priority for the management, and he will be present in Munich this year to interview and meet Kempinski’s potential future managers. His requirement for a job in luxury hospitality: “The only indispensable qualities you need to work in the hotel industry are passion and enthusiasm. Everything else can be learned.”
In total, over 2,500 internal and external participants have already come to Kempinski Career Days in Munich, China and the Middle East, and the success rate is high: more than 50 percent of the external applicants who took part in the Kempinski Career Day 2012 in Munich have received an offer and have taken on an international career with Europe’s oldest hotel group. Internal applicants were also successful, as 90 percent ultimately received an offer for their next career step.
In order to make the most of the opportunities available and increase the chances for success, the applicants should come well-prepared. Candidates should carry several copies of their up-to-date CVs in their pockets and have some basic information about Kempinski in mind, i.e., in which countries is Kempinski present; where does the company aim to expand; where and what are the jobs? This information can be found at www.kempinski.com. Naturally, applicants’ own wishes and goals should also be clearly defined. Flexibility is important, as more than 1,000 participants are expected to attend this year’s event. All hotel General Managers in attendance will conduct interviews for all job vacancies worldwide, so applicants should be flexible to speak with managers of different hotels and not just their first choice. If there is a long queue, it is recommended that applicants go to another hotel stand where fewer people are waiting. In the afternoon between 2pm and 6pm, heads of departments from Kempinski’s headquarters in Geneva will give presentations to shed some light on the career development opportunities that are possible within the industry.
And for those who are unable to attend the Career Day in Munich should mark their calendar for the Career Day in China which will take place on March 23, 2013, in Beijing.
