Kempinski Career Day 2014
2014-03-03; Applicants from all over the world gathered again at the Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich last Saturday. They all had the same target: the Kempinski Career Day 2014 where they had the chance to participate in speed dating with 73 hotel General Managers of the luxury hotel group, the members of the management board and the upper management to win them over and find the right position for their next step on the career ladder. Around 150 internal and 650 external applicants – from trainees to heads of departments – were ready and waited patiently, in some cases in queues, until it was their turn for a job interview at their desired hotel. With participants, among others, from Shenzhen, Kenya and Abu Dhabi, this year’s Career Day was a truly global event. “Every year it is really impressive to see how passionate the applicants are,” states Reto Wittwer, President and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, who is thrilled about this event. Michel Gehrig, Vice President Talent Development, adds: “And there are so many excellent and professional candidates so we can offer them a job on the spot.”
During the Kempinski Career Day 2014, a total of 1,500 interviews with enthusiastic and passionate candidates were conducted and almost 600 jobs were offered right away. The largest number of applicants queued for Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi, Grand Hotel des Bains St. Moritz and Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates Dubai. Holger Schroth, General Manager of Emirates Palace, spoke to more than 70 applicants and conducted therewith the most interviews among all General Managers. Brice Pean, General Manager at the new Yanqi Lake Kempinski Hotel Beijing, which is to be opened gradually in summer, offered 24 jobs, and at Kempinski Hotel Yinchuan all of the open positions were filled.
For the first time, all of the visitors to the Kempinski Career Day had the opportunity to attend different panel discussions in the afternoon. The topics were in the field of the three strategic pillars of the Kempinski strategy: Innovation, Food & Beverage and Talent. Lively discussions were held in the large ball room of the Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich in which among others Reto Wittwer, Duncan O’Rourke, Chief Operating Officer of Kempinski Hotels, Michel Gehrig, and Stéphane Bellon, Vice President Corporate Food & Beverage of Kempinski Hotels as well as external representatives like Eric Bélanger, Career Development & Internship Coordinator of the César Ritz Colleges, and Michell Zappa, founder of Envision Technology, participated.
The Training and Education sector of Kempinski had its own stand for the first time. The main topic there was “How can I improve myself so that I am ready for the next step on the career ladder”. Katherine de Fontaine, Vice President Training and Education, and Marc Feller, Corporate Director Essential! Training Programmes were happy to answer all questions together with employees of Lobster Inc, a company which develops special online training sessions for the hotel industry and cooperates with Kempinski.
The social media sites were also actively used: the participants shared their experience of the day on Twitter (@KempinskiCareer), LinkedIn (Kempinski worldwide) and Facebook.
