A New Chapter for Beijing’s Beloved European Delicatessen

Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center - Restaurant

Beijing, 28 November 2025 – Kempi Deli at Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center officially reopened today at its new location along the Liangma River Garden, following a full relocation and rebranding. Now known as Kempi Deli 2.0, the relaunch introduces a contemporary space, an expanded all-day culinary concept, a new alfresco terrace along the Liangma River and a new line of house-made retail products. Marking its 33rd year, the deli honours its European heritage of house-made classics while embracing modern refinements, a balance that reaffirms its enduring appeal in Beijing.

A Fresh Space, A Familiar Welcome

The redesign draws inspiration from Kempinski Hotels’ ‘Berthold’ Deli concept, seamlessly blending the welcoming warmth of a traditional European delicatessen with the clean, contemporary aesthetic of a modern café. The iconic red-and-white striped awnings remain untouched, preserving a familiar landmark for loyal guests. Inside, warm wood finishes are paired with a dedicated barista counter, floor-to-ceiling pastry displays and a self-service retail zone, effortlessly bridging convenient grab-and-go service with relaxed dine-in moments.

Al Fresco Dining Along the Liangma River

Designed for everything from quick coffee breaks to leisurely conversations, the newly introduced indoor and outdoor dining areas offer a serene counterpoint to the city’s pace. The riverside terrace extends into a landscaped garden along the Liangma River, with shaded seating nestled among greenery, which is expected to be completed in Q1 2025, creating an urban oasis in the heart of Beijing’s diplomatic quarter.

All-Day Culinary Experience

Kempi Deli 2.0 now operates as a true all-day destination. Mornings open with freshly ground coffee, house-baked croissants, rye breads and German-style granola. At midday, the menu features freshly grilled sandwiches, seasonal salads and paninis layered with house-roasted meats and artisanal condiments. Afternoons centre on speciality coffee and sliced classic European cakes, most notably the original Black Forest cake, still prepared from its decades-old recipe. As evening falls, the offering shifts to curated platters of house-cured charcuterie, regional cheeses, marinated antipasti and carefully selected European wines.

House-Made Retail Collection

A new retail line extends this experience beyond the premises. Sausages, pâtés, jams, granola, chocolate bars, antipasti, cold-pressed juices, fresh pasta sauces and more, all crafted in-house using time-honoured recipes, are now available for convenient grab-and-go or authentic European meals at home. Alongside these everyday staples, an expanded selection of curated gift sets makes gifting effortless, including chocolate gift boxes, handmade biscuit tins and artisan bread baskets, each thoughtfully packaged to reflect Kempi Deli’s refined identity.

‘Kempi Deli has been a part of Beijing’s story since 1992,’ says Christian Wiendick, Managing Director of Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center. ‘For 33 years, guests have returned for our cakes, over 100,000 slices a year, and our handmade pretzels, with more than 30,000 enjoyed annually. Today, we are honoured to relocate to a new home along the Liangma River and relaunch as Kempi Deli 2.0: a celebration of our heritage and a new chapter.’

‘Kempi Deli 2.0 isn’t just another coffee shop or grab-and-go deli,’ he adds. ‘It’s a ‘polished casual’ spot right by the Liangma River, somewhere you can pop in for a morning croissant, linger over lunch with views or unwind with a glass of wine and a charcuterie board as the sun sets. Everything we do here is rooted in real craftsmanship and authentic flavours. We are not chasing trends – we are thoughtfully balancing heritage with fresh ideas. Food made with care and served with warmth – that’s what brings people back, again and again.’
