Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra Concludes Month-long Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

Accra, 31 October 2024 – Globally, October is recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, early diagnosis and treatment. In Ghana, breast cancer has become the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, prompting an increasing number of organisations, including Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast  City Accra, to advocate for early detection and support efforts to reduce breast cancer mortality in the country.

Since its launch in 2023, BE Health, the flagship corporate social responsibility programme by Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, has championed the fight against breast cancer in collaboration with Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana. Throughout October, the hotel led several initiatives under the theme ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’, which included guest donation drives, educational seminars, health screenings and wellness walks.

One of the campaign’s highlights was the ‘Walk for the Cure’, organised in partnership with Breast Care International. Held in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, and under the theme ‘Together We Can Change the Narrative about Cancers in Africa’, the event gathered thousands of individuals, including healthcare professionals, students, breast cancer survivors and business and community leaders in a powerful show of support for breast cancer advocacy. Additionally, Kempinski hosted BCI’s fundraising event and supported the sod-cutting ceremony for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence.

‘Over the past year, BE Health has made a meaningful impact by providing essential resources and support to medical practitioners and individuals facing breast cancer, making a meaningful difference in their lives’, said Hanno Barkhoff, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. ‘Corporate Social Responsibility is at the core of our values, and through BE Health, we are proud to support Breast Care International. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier future for all.’

President of Breast Care International, Dr. Beatrice Addai Wiafe, expressed her gratitude to the hotel for their strong partnership and continued support.

The hotel has committed to sponsoring healthcare professionals for oncology training, as well as supporting the treatments of patients affected by breast cancer. Hotel guests looking to make a difference can also donate GHS 15 (1 Euro) with each night’s stay or through purchasing the ‘BE Health Elixir’ mocktail and BE Health Salad.
