CDM

Central Children's Store on Lubyanka – a legendary children's shop

The Central Children's Store (CDM) on Lubyanka holds a special place in the hearts of the capital's residents and guests. For more than half a century, people have been coming here on excursions, in search of heartwarming gifts and the feeling of a fairy tale.

The shop was built in 1957 under the project of Alexey Dushkin, an outstanding architect and author of Moscow metro stations. CDM became the largest children's shop in the USSR and the first shopping facility to install escalators.

In 2015, the shop opened after a large-scale reconstruction. Many original elements of the facade and interior were preserved.

The centre of attraction for guests is the historical space of the main atrium. Its dome is decorated with colourful stained glass windows based on the works of the famous Russian illustrator Ivan Bilibin, and the dome of the small atrium is decorated with stained glass windows with reproductions of paintings by Aristarkh Lentulov, the founder of the Russian avant-garde. A three-dimensional light show is staged daily in the main atrium at 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00.

The time in CDM is shown by the unique "Rocket" clock, which is among the five largest and most accurate mechanical clocks in the world.

One of the best viewpoints in the city is located on the roof of the Central Department Store. It offers a panoramic view of the historical centre of Moscow: the Kremlin, the Polytechnic Museum and Lubyanka Square.
