Štrbské Pleso, 31 January 2024 – The EarthCheck Bronze certification confirmed and rewarded the commitment of the hotel on the shores of Štrbské Pleso to follow strictly defined procedures, which include, for example, careful handling of water, paper and energy consumption, precise strategies for waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
"With every measure we take to protect the environment, we strive to become an even more sustainable hotel. We appreciate the bronze certificate very much and it is a confirmation for us that it is worth making an effort to become better in this area. We have attended a number of training sessions, discussed various ideas and set up many sustainable practices in the hotel," said Kathrin Noll, General Manager of the Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras. "We are fully aware of our responsibility for the social as well as the environmental and cultural value of the High Tatras. Therefore, from our position, we are obliged to protect them and behave responsibly," continues Kathrin Noll.
A Slovak hotel in the High Tatras has joined the Clean the World programme, which donates soap to vulnerable communities around the world. "It can be an inspiration for other hotels because toiletries don't have to end up in landfills or incinerators. Clean the World helps prevent hygiene-related illnesses and deaths through the distribution of donated hygiene products to people in need," explains Kathrin Noll, adding that the hotel's Grand Restaurant also has the environment in mind. They are guided by the "zero waste" principle and try to consume all the raw materials they use in the preparation of their meals.
The bronze certificate is the first step in recognising the companies' commitment to measuring and monitoring their performance in terms of ecology and sustainability. It is the first stage through which organisations operating in the tourism industry can obtain further certificates – silver, gold and platinum.
