Sustainability

Luxury with Purpose in the Heart of the High Tatras.

Sustainability

As a proud member of Kempinski Hotels, we believe that true grandeur is inseparable from responsibility. Nestled within the pristine wilderness of the High Tatras National Park, Grand Hotel Kempinski is committed to a legacy that honours our environment, our people and the local Slovak community.
In partnership with the globally recognised EarthCheck Certified programme, we have integrated sustainability into the very fabric of our daily operations. Since attaining Silver Certification in 2025, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to energy efficiency, water conservation and the preservation of local customs. By championing local artisans and service providers, we ensure every guest experience is not only luxurious but also meaningful—safeguarding the beauty of the Tatras for generations to come.

OUR PROMISE TO THE PEAKS

At Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras, we live in harmony with the High Tatras National Park. Our mission is simple: to protect the delicate ecosystem that surrounds us. Through mindful use of resources and the support of our guests, we work tirelessly to preserve the unspoilt beauty of the mountains and the serenity of Lake Štrbské Pleso. We invite you to experience luxury that respects the wild, ensuring these landscapes remain timeless for generations to come.

ENERGY

We leverage the latest smart building technology to uphold our environmental commitments. From energy-efficient LED lighting to precision-tuned climate control systems, we prioritise high-performance operations that help preserve the clean air and natural atmosphere of the High Tatras.

WATER

Every drop of water is a precious resource. At Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras, we take conservation further through active monitoring and responsible water management. This commitment is evident from the moment you arrive; our 'green roof' above the main entrance naturally filters rainwater, which we collect to maintain our gardens. These initiatives ensure that our presence supports, rather than negatively impacts, the water sustainability of the National Park.

WASTE RECYCLING

True sustainability is built on partnership. We collaborate closely with local specialists to ensure the responsible lifecycle of our materials, from printer cartridges to organic food waste. To advance our environmental goals, we have introduced high-efficiency compression systems for paper and plastics. This allows us to optimise collection schedules and reduce the number of trips, directly reducing CO2 emissions while maintaining the natural tranquillity of our National Park setting.

FOOD WASTE

At Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras, our farm-to-fork approach is rooted in sustainability. Our kitchen embraces zero-waste principles, thoughtfully transforming every element of our locally sourced produce into exceptional dishes. With a deep respect for animal welfare, we are proud to source only free-range eggs, ensuring that our breakfast and dining experiences are as ethical as they are exquisite.

REGIONAL ASPECTS

The culinary concept of Grand Restaurant is centred on supporting local businesses, keeping delivery routes short to reduce emissions and contributing to the High Tatras region as a whole. We take pride in offering our guests the finest products of the region, sourced from local producers and suppliers.

SUPPORTING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Beyond supporting local commerce, we are deeply committed to the next generation of hospitality and arts professionals. Through our dual education programmes in collaboration with regional hotel schools, we offer students pathways to a world-class career, welcoming them to be permanent members of the Kempinski family upon graduation as part of the Kempinski Flourish Programme.

Once a month, our Lobby Lounge transforms into a grand stage for the Kempinski Concertini. We are proud to partner with the Conservatory on Jantárová Street in Košice, providing a prestigious platform for young artists to share their musical talent with our international guests.

GREEN LINEN ARTEFACT

We ensure that bed linen is changed every two days. However, guests may request daily linen changes at their discretion simply by placing the local artefact on the bed.

PLUSH TOYS

We care for our planet as much as we care for our little guests. That is why we have included plush toys made from 100% recycled materials in our offer. These sustainable plush friends bring joy to children while helping to reduce environmental impact.

ADDITIONAL INITIATIVES

  • We use wood for room keycards instead of plastic.
  • We offer guests e-charging stations for electric vehicles located conveniently at the hotel.
  • We use QR codes to display our In-room Dining menu and to provide comprehensive information about guest activities.

We are proud to present Kempinski's experience and practical steps in achieving sustainability. Our goal is to highlight the tangible benefits of certification—whether in terms of economics, marketing or guest satisfaction. As a hotel situated within a National Park, we aim to inspire other hotels in Slovakia to take steps to adopt more sustainable practices. Together, we continuously strive to minimise and reduce our environmental impact wherever possible.
