5 Star Hotel instead of swimming pool

5 Star Hotel instead of swimming pool

Königstein im Taunus, 5 August 2013. Johanna is 17 years old. In one year she is going to finish her IB at the Strothoff International School, an international school in Frankfurt-Dreieich. What she is going to do after finishing school is not clear yet, that is the reason why she decided to do an internship in the field Business Development & Communications in the two 5-star-superior-Hotels Falkenstein Grand Kempinski and Villa Rothschild Kempinski during her summer break.

While her schoolmates are searching for the right swimwear on a late morning, Johanna gets up at 6 am during her summer break. Instead of comfortable free-time shorts Johanna’s clothes look more conservative these days. “A combination of black and white is good”, says Johanna, “it always looks classy and chic.” To be in time at her working place in Königstein im Taunus, she takes the train from Buchschlag near Frankfurt am Main at 7.30 am. At 9 am she arrives in Königstein, but not at her final destination. To reach the Falkenstein Grand Kempinski she has to take the bus.

Johanna would like to study in the fields “Business”, “Management” or “Hospitality” after her time in school. With her IB she has the chance to study in London or one of Chinas famous cities. To finally find out what she wants to be in the future she decided to do an internship again during her summer break. “It’s a great opportunity to see if I can see myself in the future doing this job,” describes Johanna. It is not the first internship for the passionate basketball player, who enjoys travelling. Last year she has already been working in London for JP Morgan Chase.

This year she decided to do “Business Development & Communications” for two hotels. What she is doing there? „During the first days I got to know the hotels and my new colleagues, “but then it started, “describes Johanna the past two weeks. She helped with photo shootings, created newsletters, worked with various content management systems for different websites of the hotels and their restaurants, constructing posters and supporting colleagues with the upcoming Christmas brochure. She learned a lot over the two weeks.

Andreas Koini, head of Strothoff International School supported his student on her way to make the best decisions for her future through the help of internships.” Our students are aligned to go their own way with their learned abilities. But of course supports the schools the students on their way.” Johanna although did not need that help, because she elected the internship herself, applied and was accepted very fast.

If she wants to study hospitality now, is still not clear. “But now I know, what I can expect from the future and it really helped me make an appropriate decision. Furthermore did I enjoy the time a lot.” That is Johanna’s resolution before school starts again.
