The “Elbdampschifffahrts-Gesellschaft” can look back on a history of more than 175 years. The company was founded in 1836 by Dresden inhabitants. They started to offer passenger transport on the Elbe River within the borders of Saxony. Before the Second World War, the company owned 33 steamers, but afterwards their number was reduced to eight. Today the “Sachsische Dampfschifffahrts GmbH & Co.” is still using nine original steamboats, with always keeping an eye on historical details.
They offer different kinds of cruises – for example, a river sightseeing tour, a palace tour or a Saxon Switzerland tour. The steamboats also pass various interesting cities, like Meißen, Pirna and Bad Schandau. During summer, it is a popular way to discover Dresden’s surroundings.
