The Ardoukoba Volcano emerged from the bowels of the earth in 1978, in the volcanic region of Lake Assal, and fascinates volcanologists and geologists.

The Volcanic Crater

Ardoukoba is the roof of the plate tectonic movement: little by little, Africa is detaching itself from Arabia.
You can climb to the crater of the volcano. You will walk on dark lava flows, which, despite their thousands of years, still seem warm.
The site is approximately 30-minute walk from Assal Lake.
