Cairo Citadel

Located in the centre of Historic Cairo, the citadel is a large 12th century fortress overlooking the city. Be fascinated by its winding alleys and streets exuding mystery yet buzzing with life. The citadel is rich in history, with Coptic churches at every corner and three mosques. Visitors should pay a visit to Al-Azhar Mosque in particular, home to the oldest university in the world.

There are also three museums within its walls. The Egyptian Military Museum displays a huge range of items related to the history of the Egyptian Army. Al-Gawhara Palace Museum is an elegant building commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha, full of beautiful rooms. The Carriage Museum is a unique collection of Royal Carriages from Egypt’s history.
