Cevat Sakir Kabaagaçlı, also known as the ‘Fisherman of Halicarnassus’, is deeply associated with Bodrum where he started living in 1927 after being sentenced to three years' exile. After falling under the spell of the town, he continued to live there for 25 years.
His pen name is a reference to Halicarnassus, the name of the city in antiquity. He is largely credited for bringing the formerly sleepy fishing and sponge-diving town of Bodrum, as well as the entire shoreline of the Blue Voyage, to the attention of the world. Sounds like a place on our bucket list!
