The most exclusive restaurant at the Adlon: for hotel staff only!

Berlin, October 30, 2018 – Berthold’s staff restaurant named after the founder of the Kempinski Group now offers a new impressive concept and modern facilities. Two chefs and four service staff including a restaurant manager appointed especially for Berthold’s, attend to the daily needs of 470 staff. They conjure up a selection of varied, healthy dishes including vegetarian options – even at night. Between meals, there is a large range of fruit, cakes and pastries available, also a sandwich bar and on Sundays homemade fresh traybakes. The food is also presented in an appetising way. A new buffet set-up with corresponding equipment provides for an aesthetically pleasing display.

The hotel’s General Manager not only came up with the idea to redesign and reconceptualise the  restaurant, he also declared it a top priority. After all, the well-being of the hotel’s staff is very important for Matthias Al-Amiry. This is why the staff restaurant had to be redesigned to offer a place of well-being. It is particularly important for the General Manager that the restaurant offers a varied range of food throughout the day. “I believe the hotel’s biggest asset is its staff. To treat them with respect and take care of them is perfectly natural for me. And I am convinced that the satisfaction of our employees automatically rubs off on our guests.”

The mecca for Adlon staff

The Adlon day begins punctually at 7 a.m. with a balanced and healthy breakfast. Adlon staff, suppliers and service providers can look forward to highlights such as 7 different sorts of bread and bread rolls, freshly pressed orange juice, smoothies, different egg dishes every day, fresh fruit salad as well as a cereals bar. Lunch is also varied. The biggest rush for lunch is between 12 noon and 2 p.m. There are three different dishes on the lunch menu. There is something for every taste and cultural group: besides meat and fish dishes there are also vegetarian options and particularly balanced alternatives as well as a colourful salad bar. Water and a large selection of soft drinks are available around the clock. Before they return to their desks, many employees enjoy the dessert of the day and a tea or coffee of their choice. The two fully automatic coffee machines in the staff restaurant offer specialities such as espresso, latte macchiato, cappuccino and caffè crema all day. Staff working the night shift are also catered for with 2 hot meals, one vegetarian and one freshly prepared by the night chef, which are guaranteed to satisfy their hunger.

Theme day at Berthold’s – eagerly anticipated by the staff

The so-called theme day is a particularly popular concept. Once a month, a special menu is created on a certain theme. This may have a seasonal connection or focus on a classic dish from a certain country. The main countries to choose from are, of course, the 60 nations represented by the Adlon staff. From asparagus in abundance to a profusion of pasta, sushi with chopsticks or roast goose at Christmas, Berthold’s is decorated accordingly and musical entertainment is also provided. The dishes are also served by the hotel’s management team. The staff will no doubt especially remember the most recent theme “American burgers” when Matthias Al-Amiry rolled- up his sleeves and manned the grill, making burgers out of the various meats on offer in front of his staff.

Not just a restaurant but also a place to relax and receive further training

The restaurant also offers a partly separate lounge area where staff can spend a few moments relaxing and chatting with colleagues or take advantage of further training. The wide range of training measures developed by Kempinski for all hotel departments can be accessed on four laptops in this area.

Berthold’s has become the centrepiece of the Adlon for the staff. This is where they can come to relax and regenerate. Special touches such as newspapers, magazines or a book exchange, fresh flowers or herb decorations from the hotel’s own florists and activities and displays connected to the World Cup or other events make a valuable contribution to the feel-good factor. A photo wall shows snapshots of staff from internal photo competitions and captures all those memorable Adlon moments for staff to share and relive.
