The Secret Garden at Kempinski Beijing Lufthansa Center
Inspired by the classic English children’s novel ‘The Secret Garden’, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Kempinski’s version of the garden in the story will be planted with an assortment of fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables which will be used in the hotel’s celebrated portfolio of restaurants and bars.
On 13 May, at 12 noon, Kempinski Executive Chef Thomas Laberer and a small group of chefs worked with the gardening team to plant fresh rosemary, sage, coriander, mint and parsley in the Secret Garden. These local ingredients will result in savings on food miles and allow the hotel’s restaurants and bars to offer fertiliser-free freshness, flavour and zing in dozens of their dishes.
An all-weather greenhouse in the Secret Garden will be used to grow cherry tomatoes, destined for the hotel’s salads and cold dishes, and fresh strawberries, which will be used in the many delicious cakes and pastries served by Kempi Deli and by the barsto make summer cocktails.
Before long, Kempinski’s Secret Garden will be in full bloom, just like the fictional garden in Misselthwaite Manor in the story. Be sure to visit soon and enjoy the extensive outdoor gardens, waterfeatures and dining facilitiesin Kempinski Hotel Beijing this summer!
