If you would like to learn more about Chinese contemporary art, the 798 Art District should be your first place to visit. Here, you will discover a new wave of modern art, and might even bump into some of the artists that are making this creative movement happen.
In Beijing, 798 Art District embodies the country’s cutting-edge art movement led by enthusiastic and innovative pioneering artists. Evolved from a German-designed abandoned factory, the building that houses the 798 Art District has developed an interesting culture from the mix of Chinese and Bauhaus-influenced styles. Nowadays, as more and more artists assemble there, many brilliant artworks are produced and displayed in this district. It has become a unique cultural concept and a new modern landmark of Beijing.
The 798 Art District is located in the Dashanzi Area, northeast of central Beijing, and a 15-minute drive from Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center. The opening hours are 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. We suggest visitors allow one to two hours as a minimum to fully explore the area. It is free to enter.
