The Seychelles’ National Day

Celebrating our Island Nation
The Seychelles’ National Day

Each year, on 29 June, Seychellois celebrate the anniversary of their independence from British rule in a vibrant display of patriotism and pride that spills over into the city streets and lights up the night sky with the most anticipated fireworks display of the year.

In the lead-up to National Day celebrations, the streets of Victoria are adorned with the bright colours of the Seychelles flag, and twinkling lights are hung from lamp posts. On the actual day, friends and families gather for spirited picnics and BBQs on the beaches and in the parks. A line-up of entertainment featuring top local performers and an impressive fireworks display is laid on in Victoria in the evening and draws one of the biggest crowds of the year. Visitors to the islands are encouraged to join in the festivities and will find themselves welcomed in a typical display of Creole hospitality.
