Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul and MSA Partnership
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul’s partnership with MSA Culinary Arts Academy of Istanbul, the best culinary school in town, which started in 2014 offers valuable opportunities for those who wish to improve themselves and work in the food and beverage industry.
This comprehensive partnership consists of many projects on several platforms. Partnership projects include serving a selection of the hotel’s Tuğra Restaurant menu choices at MSA’s campus restaurant Okulun Mutfağı for a month; offering MSA’s special “Tonka Cake” at the hotel’s Gazebo Lounge; a pop-up restaurant in the hotel’s garden run by MSA students with a special menu - a first for both parties, and offering internship opportunities for MSA students at Çırağan Palace Kempinski.
MSA students and graduates also have the opportunity of training, gaining real life experience and starting their career at Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul and other worldwide Kempinski hotels. Additionally, the “Turkish Cuisine Out to the World” project, which was launched by MSA to promote Turkish cuisine abroad in an academic and cultural sense, is supported by the hotel through various activities at 80 Kempinski hotels across the world.
Furthermore, projects that focus on the recognition and development of local talent as well as the domestic and overseas promotion of Turkish cuisine are taking place throughout the year.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul’s “Green Inspiration by Kempinski” programme
Through the new “Green Inspiration by Kempinski” programme launched by Kempinski at end of
2012, Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul, a former Ottoman palace on the shores of Istanbul’s Bosphorus Strait, is working to expand upon its eco-friendly initiatives and its dedication to protecting the environment. The hotel has completed the first stage of the multiphase programme that focuses on making improvements to all energy resource consumption including water, electricity and gas; recycling, sustainability and conservation practices at the hotel as well as
training and increasing the environmental awareness of the staff.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul has proudly completed the first level of the programme called, “Oak,” which begins with the establishment a Green Champion and Team to execute energy management activities, set goals as well as track and measure progress in the hotel. In the “Oak” level, the hotel switched over to using only Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper in all administrative and back office areas and changed to buying only locally produced goods. Moreover, a Green Day was created on the first day of each month in which the hotel staff works together to clean and collect garbage on the premises.
The hotel is currently working towards the completion of the second “Baobob” level. Hotels that complete the final “Gingko” level will be considered an ISO Green Norm Certified hotel with a sustainable building design.
The “Green Inspiration by Kempinski” programme can be added to the list of ongoing activities undertaken by the Ciragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment. These activities include using a tri-generation unit and sea water cooling system to produce electricity, heating and cooling; burning natural gas and reducing carbon dioxide emissions as much as possible; and using local, seasonal, natural products in the kitchen when possible.
Çıragan Palace Kempinski İstanbul’s Forest
Çıragan Palace Kempinski İstanbul has planted 1000 seeds in an area known as "Gümüşdere" in İstanbul, which in 2002 was completely barren, and has watched the trees grow year by year and turn the area into a forest...
During this global event organised by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) every year in March, Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul turns off its non-essential lights to raise awareness for the need to take action on climate change.
“Going Green in Kitchen”
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul goes green and organic in the kitchen. Led by Executive Chef Sezai Erdoğan, the kitchen stresses the use of local, seasonal, natural and organic (where ever applicable) products. Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul is proud to be an 80% organic hotel in the kitchen.
III. Art & Culture
In the corridor that links the hotel to the Palace, a Historical Gallery was set up in January 2008 to show guests the history of the Palace while providing them with some insight on how life was lived. The gallery also showcases photographs collected from Istanbullians. The music played in the Historical Gallery are songs composed by the Ottoman Sultans themselves.
Since April 2010, the large elevator landings of Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul’s hotel building have been turned into “Hotel Floor Galleries” decorated with original artwork. These private galleries adorned with the attractive and original artwork of Turkey’s living legends and valuable international artists, consist of the works of the masters that Çırağan Palace Kempinski Art Gallery has been hosting since its opening in May 2007.
IV. Elderly / Needy
Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation, İstanbul
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul supports Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation, a house founded in 1990 that shelters women and their children escaping from domestic violence. Since 2009, food is donated to the house on a periodic basis twice a week.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul collects unused clothes from the staff and delivers them to people in need through organisations such as Beşiktaş Municapility, Darülaceze and others.
Red Crescent / Turkish Kızılay
Every year Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul donates a certain amount to the Red Crescent /
Leftovers are collected by Hasdal Animal Shelter on a periodic basis.
