Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul Social Responsibility Initiatives include:
Çırağan Palace Kempinski Apprenticeship Grant Programme
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul, after partnering up for the second time with TOÇEV (Tuvena Okumaya İstekli Çocuklar Vakfı), has launched its “Çırağan Palace Kempinski Apprenticeship Grant Programme” in 2011. The programme is developed to provide an apprenticeship to students who need financial support and mentoring by giving them the opportunity to do a 2-year apprenticeship at the hotel. The apprentice receives the monthly legal trainee salary and benefits along with transportation aid and has flexible but prearranged working schedules that match with their school calendar. When the apprentice satisfactorily completes the 2-year programme, the Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul guarantees a permanent job in their line of specialty if there is any mutually agreeable position.
Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation, İstanbul
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul supports the Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation, a house founded in 1990 that shelters women and their kids who escape from domestic violence. Started in 2009, food is donated to the house twice a week.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul collects unused clothes from the staff and delivers them to people in need through organisations such as Beşiktaş Municipality, Darülaceze and others.
Red Crescent/Turkish Kızılay
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul donates 2,500 TL to the Red Crescent/Turkish Kızılay every year.
Leftovers are regularly collected by Hasdal Animal Shelter.
Çıragan Palace Kempinski İstanbul Forest
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul had planted 1000 seeds in an area called "Gümüşdere" in İstanbul, which was completely barren in 2002. The staff will watch the trees grow and turn the area into a forest year by year.
“Green Inspiration by Kempinski”
Through the new ‘Green Inspiration by Kempinski’ programme launched by Kempinski in 2012, the Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul is working to expand upon its eco-friendly initiatives and its dedication to protecting the environment. The multi-level programme focuses on improving the level of all energy resource consumption, including water, electricity and gas. The programme also focuses on recycling, sustainability and conservation practices at the hotel as well as training and environmental awareness promotion for all staff.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul has completed the first level, “Oak,” at which the hotel established a Green Champion and Team and switched over to using only Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper in all administrative and back of house areas. The hotel is also committed to buying locally produced goods.
The hotel is currently working towards completion of the second level, Baobob, and hopes to reach the final level of Gingko at a fast pace. Hotels that complete the Gingko level will be ISO Green Norm Certified hotels with a sustainable building design.
‘Green Inspiration by Kempinski’ will enhance the hotel’s greening efforts, which already began a few years ago, by using a tri-generation unit and a sea water cooling system to produce electricity, heating and cooling at the same time by burning natural gas and reducing CO2 emission as much as possible.
In this global event organised by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), every year in March Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul turns off its non-essential lights to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
Going Green in the Kitchen
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul goes green and organic in the kitchen by using local, seasonal, natural and organic (where ever applicable) products. At the moment, many ingredients, including all nuts, olives, olive oil, pasta and chicken are organic. Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul is proud that its kitchens are 80% organic at the moment.
V. Art & Culture
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul believes that cultural heritage is a necessity, not a luxury.
On the corridor that links the hotel to the Palace, a Historical Gallery was set up in January 2008 that shows guests the history of the Palace and gives them a short insight on how life was then, along with photographs collected from Istanbullians. The music played at the Historical Gallery are songs composed by the Ottoman Sultans themselves.
Çırağan Palace Kempinski İstanbul’s hotel building’s large elevator landings have been turned into “Hotel Floor Galleries”, ornamented with original artworks in April 2010. These private galleries are adorned with attractive and original artwork from Turkey’s living legends and valuable international artists. The Çırağan Palace Kempinski Art Gallery has been hosting the work of Turkish and international masters since its opening in May 2007 until January 2013.
