Capitol Theatre, a historic icon in Singapore’s civic and cultural district, made history on 12 April 2025 by hosting the city’s very first wedding musical show entitled The Gift of Forever. Merging theatrical enchantment with architectural grandeur, the event showcased the venue’s remarkable versatility to be transformed into a dream wedding venue.
Adorned with flowing sashes and romantic floral arrangements, the theatre provided a dreamy backdrop for the wedding musical, offering soon-to-weds a captivating experience as they explored stunning themes for their big day. Couples were also treated to an exquisite lunch featuring a curated wedding tasting menu.
“The Capitol Theatre is an outstanding restoration masterpiece. The wedding musical show, the first ever in the city, is not a run-of-the-mill event merely to showcase wedding themes. This show is inspired by theatrical magnificence to bring guests an immersive experience through music and performances. We are at the forefront of organising similar artistic events in the theatre, making them as spectacular as they are remarkable. This is the first of many one-of-a-kind events we do to showcase the theatre’s glorious past and versatility - not just weddings, but glamourous galas, high-profile concerts and special buyout events. We are confident that the theatre, with its historic charm combined with modern, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment will be one of the most sought-after event venues in the city as there is no other comparable venues in the city. We look forward to collaborating with partners and companies in bringing their events to the next level,” say Andras Biro, General Manager of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore.
Built in 1929 by M.A. Namazie, a pioneering Singaporean of Persian heritage, Capitol Theatre is a neo-classical masterpiece designed by British architects Keys and Dowdeswell. Conceived as both a theatre and a cinema, its layout, seating and lighting were inspired by New York’s iconic Roxy Theatre. Since 1930, it has stood proudly at the crossroads of Stamford Road and North Bridge Road as a beacon for Singapore’s moviegoers. International stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Ava Gardner and Bruce Lee have once graced its storied halls.
The beauty and heritage of Capitol Theatre are unmistakable, showcased in its expansive space crowned by a majestic dome ceiling painted with the 12 Greek zodiac signs. The stage is flanked by two magnificent winged horse sculptures with riders, anchoring the performance area in timeless elegance. The theatre’s commitment to excellence remains contemporary and vibrant, with cutting-edge audio and visual equipment that ensure world-class performances that are visually and acoustically stunning.
With 865 seats and the distinction of being Southeast Asia’s first venue to feature a rotational floor system, Capitol Theatre allows flexible configurations for galas, weddings, concerts and more – elevating every event with a touch of timeless heritage and enchantment.
