Leading the Change: The Apurva Kempinski Bali Stages an Eco-Impact Event for A Greener Future

Nusa Dua, June 2024 - The Apurva Kempinski Bali proudly hosted the third annual 'Path To Sustainable Growth' event with the theme 'Decarbonisation', highlighting its achievement in pioneering the Global Sustainable Tourism Council certification in Indonesia. The event aims to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship by calculating the event's carbon footprint and compensating through mangrove seed planting. On Wednesday, 26 June 2024, at Nusantara Presidential Villa, the event featured expert panel discussions, an eco-green fashion show, and networking opportunities.

Expert panel discussions cover sustainable challenges and decarbonisation, sustainable fashion and lifestyle, and biodiversity in culinary practices. Notable speakers include Suzy Hutomo (Founder of Eco-Tourism Bali), Mochamad Nalendra (Wise Steps Consulting), Intan Sari (Director of Hygiene and Sustainability - The Apurva Kempinski Bali), Fariz P. Mursyid (United Nations Development Programme), and Antonio Umbu Soru Pekudjawang (Jejakin Carbon Management Platform). The panel is facilitated by Alistair Speirs (MVB Consultant) and addresses ESG aspects and Global Sustainable Tourism Council certification in Indonesia.

Promoting sustainability in fashion and jewellery, Bali-based Fashion Designer Dwi Iskandar and Sri Utami from John Hardy share their sustainable practices. The event also features an eco-green fashion show by Dwi Iskandar, showcasing 24 masterpieces crafted with recycled fabrics. On the culinary front, Ade Putri Paramadita, Apurva Culinary Ambassador Executive Sous Chef Iswati Endah, and TempeMan founder Benny Santoso share insights on Indonesian indigenous ingredients and their actions to sustain and promote them globally.

The event supports Bali's regenerative programme by allocating all proceeds from ticket sales and compensating the event's carbon footprint through mangrove seed planting. According to Jejakin, the event produced 1,447.48 kgCO2e. The Apurva Kempinski Bali is committed to planting a minimum of 1,000 mangrove seeds and will include this programme in guest participation through Reef Beach Club and Koral Restaurant.

"It is truly a privilege for The Apurva Kempinski Bali to join forces with experts for a sustainable future. Our commitment to pioneering sustainable hospitality sets a precedent for the industry, demonstrating the power of collective action." Shared Vincent Guironnet, General Manager. “Together, we aim to lead by example and inspire a greener, more responsible tourism industry. We hope that through this event, we may inspire others to pursue sustainable growth and to advance more sustainable tourism."
