Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok Appoints New Executive Chef Philip Taylor

Bangkok, 20 May 2024Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is delighted to announce the recent appointment of Philip Taylor as the new Executive Chef.

A culinary expert with nearly 20 years of global experience, Philip joins Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok from his most recent role as the Executive Chef of Shangri-La Bangkok.

An Australian national, Philip discovered his culinary passion 18 years ago while working at a small pizzeria in an Italian café during his pharmacy studies at Melbourne University. He then found his true passion and shifted his focus to the culinary world by undertaking a three-year apprenticeship at Vue de Monde, a three-hatted restaurant recognised as Melbourne’s best fine dining venue at the time.

At the age of 24, he moved to China to further his career in the hospitality industry, where he explored various cuisines and cultures. He joined the renowned Mandarin Oriental, Shanghai and Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai during his residency in China. His culinary journey continued in London, where he worked in the famed two-MICHELIN-star ‘Pied A Terre’ in London’s Fitzrovia. He was then promoted to Sous Chef at the one-star ‘Galvin At Windows’ restaurant in Mayfair.

Philip’s story in Thailand began at Shangri-La Bangkok, where he joined the hotel as an Executive Sous Chef. His first tenure as Executive Chef was in Bali, where he oversaw two Four Seasons properties on the islands.

‘For me as a chef, there is an infinite amount of food knowledge, and it is important to consistently be open to absorb new knowledge in every day. It can be from anywhere–a market tour, a trip to Chinatown, an old chef with classic and long-forgotten recipes or maybe from a young man with great enthusiasm for cooking. The culinary world is constantly evolving, and that is the beauty of being a chef. It is exciting, expressive and a journey of learning that never ends’, Philip said about his passion for cooking.
