Chalet Ruinart

Engelberg, 14 October 2021 - Elegant and rustic at the same time, Chalet Ruinart opens again this winter in the ski destination of Engelberg right next to the Kempinski Palace Engelberg. With a magnificent view of the snow-covered parc of the little mountain town, guests enjoy a hearty fondue, sparkling Ruinart champagne or delicious wine during the winter season. The chalet is furnished with wooden tables and benches, as well as cosy furs to create a homely atmosphere.

„Cheese fondue belongs to Switzerland like bubbles to champagne“, says Andreas Magnus, General Manager of the five star luxury hotel in the heart of the Swiss Alps. „This year, the popular winter dish once again plays the leading role in our Chalet Ruinart. Since we work almost exclusively with local suppliers, our first priority is cheese fondue from Sälmi Töngi, an in-house production of the popular Engelberg alpine cheesemaker." But other variations are also offered on the fondue menu: A creamy, classic fondue with Gruyère and Vacherin from the Stans dairy, with additional Nidwalden alpine cheese for the special flavor. Or a fondue made with Vacherin Fribourgeois, a semi-hard cheese made from cow's milk and produced exclusively on the Alps and in the villages of the Canton of Fribourg. As a purely regional product, the cheese is characterized by its melting, refined-subtle texture. But what makes this fondue unique is that it was personally created by Christian Duc, cheesemaker and owner of Vacherin Fribourgeois, and Michelin-starred chef Carlo Crisci. The fondue is served with a Magnificents'16, a wine made from the Räuschling grape variety, a special wine from Nicolas Wüst of the Schwarzenbacher winery near Zurich - a wonderfully harmonious liaison with the cheese. While on Sundays raclette is served by Sälmi Töngi, on Wednesdays there is also a fondue chinoise. The Chalet Ruinart at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg will be open from November 26, 2022 until the end of the winter season.

About Kempinski Palace Engelberg – Titlis Swiss Alps

“Embrace Swissness” - On June 25, 2021, Kempinski Palace Engelberg was the first international five star-superior hotel to open in central Switzerland's largest winter and summer holiday destination. The successful Engelberg hotelier Eduard Cattani (1841 – 1908) had his brother, the architect Arnold Cattani (1846 – 1921), design and build the historic building, which was known far beyond the borders of Switzerland at the time. Together with the new six-storey hotel building, the listed hotel, which opened in 1904 as the “Grandhotel Winterhaus” now forms a consummate architectural unit. The 129 rooms and suites offer state-of-the-art facilities as well as a unique view of the breathtaking mountain landscape. Culinary variety is provided by the signature “Cattani restaurant” featuring also a large summer terrace, “The Palace Bar” with “Cigar Lounge” and the “Wintergarden” with regional and seasonal products. A unique 880 sq m rooftop spa with infinity pool and views over the mountain panorama, as well as a modern event area with nine conference rooms and the listed Kursaal* for up to 1,000 guests round off the diverse range of facilities. The hotel is conveniently and easily accessible all year round by car, train or in around 75 minutes by car via Zurich airport.
