As winter tourism rapidly evolved from 1903 onwards, the 'Kuranstalt' could not be heated for the colder months. To adapt to this new era, Cattani commissioned his brother - the internationally renowned hotel architect Arnold Cattani (1846–1921) - to construct the Grand Hotel Winterhaus. Later became better known as the Hotel Europäischer Hof, this historic property officially opened its doors in 1905.

In 2016, a comprehensive five-year renovation began to combine our historic building with a contemporary extension. In collaboration with expert partners, the property’s landmark character was carefully preserved to create a state-of-the-art, five-star superior experience.

The grand moment had finally come: We proudly opened our doors as Kempinski Palace Engelberg, beautifully reviving this historic jewel for a new generation of luxury travellers.
