Xiamen, known as the ‘Egret Island’, located on the South East coast overlooking the Taiwan Strait, with a population of 4.3 million around, is a vibrant seafront city with a unique nineteenth century European flavour and charm, natural beauty and a flourishing economy. Primary economic activities include fishing, shipbuilding, food processing, tanning, textiles, machine tool manufacturing, chemical industries, telecommunications and financial services.
