Bansko Opera Fest

"The Barber of Seville" opened the fourteenth edition of the Bansko Opera Fest on 25 August.

On 25 and 26 August, the cultural forum "Bansko Opera Fest" will gather lovers of classical art in the central square of the resort town. On Friday, 25 August, the guests and residents of Bansko will enjoy the comedy opera "The Barber of Seville." On 26 August, Varna State Opera will present the musical “Bodyguard."

More than two centuries ago, the famous refrain "Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!" heralded the arrival of the Barber of Seville and the beginning of endless entertainment for the audience. In 1816, 24-year-old Gioachino Rossini wrote and staged his opera in record time, asserting his place as an eminent opera dramatist, a worthy follower of Mozart and the finest operatic traditions of Italian opera-buffa. The libretto for the comic opera is by Cesare Sterbini, who successfully reworked the comedy of the same name by Beaumarchais.

"The Barber of Seville" is a truly realistic musical comedy. The characters are endowed with typical, drawn-from-life traits. Vivid theatrical situations are natural and truthful.

On the stage of the Bansko Opera Fest, we will see Ilina Mihailova in the role of Rozina, Venceslav Atanasov as Figaro, Georgi Sultanov - Count Almaviva, and Deyan Vachkov - Don Basilio. The director of the performance is Antonio Petris and the conductor is Svetoslav Borisov. The production is by the Varna State Opera.

The musical "The Bodyguard" is a stage adaptation of the legendary film with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. It premiered in 2012 in London, after which it was staged in the USA, Italy, Australia, Germany, South Korea, Austria, and is currently playing in England and Germany. It is always presented in the national language of the country and the songs are preserved in the original language.

"Bodyguard" is famous for its stunning choreography, glamorous costumes, impressive scenography and the original orchestration of Whitney Houston's hits "I Will Always Love You," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," "Saving All My Love For You," "How Will I Know," as well as the specially written "Run to You" and "I Have Nothing."

For the Bulgarian production of "Bodyguard," our superstar Orlin Goranov has been invited in the role of Frank Farmer, the English musical and film actress Manal El Feituri in the role of the superstar Rachel Maron and the young singer and actress Nora Karaivanova in the role of Niki Maron, Rachel's sister.

The organisers of Bansko Opera Fest – Municipality of Bansko, Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko and Monte Music – remind that the entrance is free, the place is "Nikola Vaptsarov" square, and the last days of August are an excellent choice for a vacation in the foothills of Pirin.
