Chengdu, China –Thomas Hsu joins us this month as the new General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Chengdu. He brings over 27 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry, with a strong focus on pre-opening projects, asset management, and strategic operations.

Thomas’s career began in 1997 at The Residence Inn by Marriott in Vancouver. He later held key leadership roles at Hyatt and Westin in Taiwan and Macau, China. In 2010, he brought his expertise to mainland China, beginning with the Grand Park Hotel in Kunming. He subsequently served as Executive Assistant Manager of Rooms at the Hyatt Regency Chongqing, and in 2017, he assumed his first General Manager role at the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Shanghai New Hongqiao Hotel.

Since 2019, Thomas has led the pre-opening of the Tivoli Hotel & Residence Chengdu, a large complex spanning over 110,000 sqm. He played a key role in design, project management, and construction oversight. The hotel posted a positive GOP in its 2022 opening year and surpassed budget in 2023, earning the ‘Best Opening Team’ award at the 2023 Minor Awards.

Thomas is a strategic leader with a proven track record in revenue growth and brand development, underpinned by impactful marketing initiatives. He is deeply committed to team development and describes his leadership style as fostering a positive and empowering culture that drives exceptional service.
