Next Generation of Culinary Mastery at Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz A Double Promotion of Young Talent

Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz is thrilled to unveil the promotion of two of its most exceptional culinary talents, Jonas Starkowski and Michel Caglioni. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting new era in the hotel’s celebrated culinary legacy. Jonas Starkowski ascends to the prestigious role of Executive Chef, while Michel Caglioni takes on the dynamic position of Executive Sous Chef, together poised to redefine the gastronomic experience at the iconic destination of St. Moritz.

Jonas Starkowski, Executive Chef
Jonas Starkowski’s culinary journey with Kempinski began in 2014 at Kempinski Munich Airport, where his remarkable talent quickly set him apart. In 2015, he joined Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz, rapidly advancing from Commis de Cuisine to Sous Chef within just three years. During this time, Jonas further enriched his expertise through a pivotal Task Force assignment at Kempinski Berchtesgaden in 2016.

His quest for culinary mastery then led him to The Omania in Zermatt, where he refined his skills as Chef Gardemanger, followed by a role as Head Chef for a private family. Yet, his passion for Kempinski ultimately brought him back to Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz in 2022. Since his return, Jonas has consistently showcased outstanding leadership and creativity, which naturally led to his promotion to Executive Sous Chef. Over the past year, he has successfully guided the kitchen team, elevating the hotel’s culinary offerings to new heights. Now, as Executive Chef, Jonas is poised to further redefine the culinary landscape at this iconic property.

“We are thrilled to have Jonas step into the role of Executive Chef,” said General Manager Konstantin Zeuke. “His promotion is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication. This new chapter will allow him to further shape our culinary vision, and I am confident that under his leadership, we will continue to deliver extraordinary experiences for our guests. I look forward to collaborating with Jonas and our talented team to push the boundaries of culinary excellence.”

Michel Caglioni, Executive Sous Chef
Michel Caglioni’s passion for the culinary arts was ignited in his parents’ restaurant, where he began his journey before receiving formal training in Chiavenna. His early career included four formative summer seasons at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo on Lake Como. He then honed his skills at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, swiftly advancing from Commis to Chef de Partie. Michel’s talent further flourished in Ascona, where he played a key role as Sous Chef at both Giardino and Castello del Sole, contributing to their impressive Gault Millau ratings of 16 and 18 points, respectively.

Michel joined Kempinski three years ago, where he was instrumental in the success of the Cà d’Oro restaurant, which earned two Michelin stars during his tenure. Most recently, he excelled as the Italian Chef in the main kitchen, overseeing the acclaimed restaurant Da Adriano, which garnered 14 Gault Millau points and was celebrated as the best restaurant in town by TripAdvisor. Michel’s promotion to Executive Sous Chef reflects his unwavering dedication and exceptional culinary expertise, promising to elevate our culinary offerings even further.

With his promotion to Executive Sous Chef, Michel Caglioni will collaborate closely with Executive Chef Jonas Starkowski to further elevate the culinary experience at Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz. Together, they are poised to redefine excellence in the kitchen, promising an unparalleled gastronomic journey for our guests.
