Historically the first Polo on Snow tournament in Slovakia attracted thousands of people to Strbske pleso on the doorsteps of the Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras.
The Polo on Snow J&T Banka Trophy 2010 was held on February 5 – 7, 2010 in the breathtaking scenery of the High Tatras in Strbske Pleso, directly on the top of a frozen glacier mountain lake. The Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras is proud to have been part of this prestigious event that was a highlight of the winter social season. The tournament was organized by J&T Bank and attracted many VIPs, media, celebrities and around ten thousand visitors.
The three day event offered the guests a unique opportunity to enjoy polo matches in the surroundings of the High Tatras peaks and was accompanied by many events and attractive program - folklore performances, Tatra “fair”, horse riding and carriage, polo on snow to try, curling on ice, gallery of ice statues, hot-air balloon and more.
The Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras had the pleasure to accommodate most of the VIP guests and polo players. Guests were treated with culinary specialties from around the world, only for the Saturday night party our chefs prepared 2000 oysters, 2500 sushi and sashimi pieces, several kilograms of salmon, 10 kg of caviar, 140 kg of tiger prawns and 25 kg of Kamtschatka´s King Crab which were acompanied by rivers of Champagne wine.
The first Polo on Snow welcomed more visitors than expected and became the most watched event of the season. “It was an amazing event and a great experience. We hope this to be the beginning of a great tradition of polo tournaments in High Tatras which will attract more and more tourists to our region”, said the new General Manager of the Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras, Mr. Jean-Claude Annen. The reminder of our success, the tournament trophy, will be permanently displayed at the hotel.
