The lagoon city at a glance
About Venice

Every year, Venice welcomes millions of visitors from across the world. The famous lagoon city was founded around the fifth centuries by Venetians, who originally lived on the mainland. To protect themselves from the impact of the development of the Roman Empire, they started to build small islands on the Venetian lagoon. In the past, La Serenissima consisted of over 100 small islands. Over the years, Venice developed into one of the most powerful and precious cities in Italy and Europe, and is nowadays a true historical jewel that needs to be seen at least once in a lifetime.

Venice is a year-round destination, where visitors can enjoy the quaint streets, canals and fascinating architecture around the city. The range of activities and experiences are matchless in Venice. Traditional artisan crafts in particular are showcased in renowned cultural institutions.

Venetian food is always a draw to the city. Delicious pasta, fresh seafood and pizza are served in Osterias in the Italian metropolis. Besides that, Venice is famous for the "Aperitivo Ritual" , which mostly consists of Venetian Cicchetti (Italian tapas) and the so-called Spritz.

Surrounded by the Dolomites and other Venetian islands, Venice can be visited on trips that can be easily combined with a day tour to other Italian landmark cities, such as Verona, Padua and even Milan.
