Where to Get Married in Venice
San Clemente Church
A 12th-century chapel built in the Romanesque style, San Clemente Church is a one-of-a-kind venue with an interesting history and a traditional, romantic appeal.
In 1643, to fulfil a vow made during the plague epidemic that struck the city in 1630, Venetians funded the construction of a new chapel, modelled on the Santa Casa di Loreto (Holy House of Loreto), inside the San Clemente church where the main altar was. This “church in a church” is still a main feature of the structure.
The church is serviced by a private pier nearby, and contains the Sacristy, a 12th-century space which is one of the oldest places of worship in Venice. The Sacristy also opens onto a private courtyard, perfect for welcoming your guests, wedding meals, cocktail receptions and cake-cutting ceremonies.
The church can cater for 150 guests, while 20 can dine in the Sacristy. The rich heritage of the building and the opportunity to set up and decorate the venue however you would like make San Clemente Church the ideal location for any ceremony.
The Island's Gardens and Hills
Offering over four hectares of natural beauty in Venice, San Clemente Palace Kempinski's extensive gardens provide a wonderful outdoor wedding location. Featuring landscaped lawns surrounded by the cypress, magnolia and pine trees of the centuries-old park and three hills that offer fantastic views over the lagoon, the choice of location for your ceremony is completely yours – let your imagination run free.
In the heart of the gardens is also La Dolce Restaurant, a beautiful location if you are searching for a summery, outdoor atmosphere.
Up to 1,000 guests can be catered for in the gardens.
Located at front of the ancient church and elegant hotel buildings, the Acquerello Terrace opens out onto the Lagoon and offers exceptional views, especially at sunset, over the lagoon and the Venice skyline. With pretty flowerbeds and statues, it is a perfect venue for an outdoor ceremony or reception, while the nearby pier allows guests to wave off the happy couple as they embark on their honeymoon.
The terrace caters for up to 300 people.
The Picturesque Inner Courtyards
Reminiscent of the monastery that used to occupy the island, the many courtyards within San Clemente Palace Kempinski are available for all kinds of events, including wedding ceremonies or receptions.
Alongside the courtyard at Restaurant Insieme, you can choose between the Art Courtyard, Herb Garden Courtyard, Navigante Couryard and the extensive Inner Courtyard – all are decorated in an exquisite Venetian style and have an atmosphere unlike any other.
The inner courtyards cater for up to 80 guests.
Indoor Hotel Venues
There are also a selection of indoor venues to choose from – an excellent choice if you choose to wed outside of the summer months, when the city is quieter and the weather is cooler. Enjoy the beautiful décor of the Acquerello and Insieme Restaurants, the refined Oriente Room, and the extensive Ballroom.
